Harvested my weed - I cut off the top buds two weeks ago already but left the rest to mature a bit more and that worked out very nicely. Now to dry and cure it. Also, my hissing roaches absolutely love eating the leaves. I don't think it can affect them, it's probably the scent (they love basil as well)

The new bees for the library garden arrived! We've been keeping bees there for years now, although sadly the hives died during the winter fairly frequently (which is something that happens, with several hives you just have a better chance to come through winter with a few of them alive than with just one). In any case, I am looking forward to taking care of them and watching them, it's always super fun and never stops being fascinating. We have a top bar hive, so the bees build the combs hanging from wooden slats covering the top of the hive and not in frames.

Making stop motion movies with a bunch of kids today! It's the least stressful event ever, my involvement is basically saying hello and welcome, asking if anyone can explain how stop motion works (and they can), tipping out our bigass trunk of Lego onto the floor and maaaybe explaining how to use the app later. Oh and showing all the movies on our big screen. It's always super fun, and the kids come up with such wild stories for their movies

I have arrived at the declaration of martial law on Earth in my rewatch of Babylon 5, and let's just say the whole show hits differently in 2025. I wish it didn't.

Still my favourite scifi show ever, and I am having a great time watching it one episode a week.

I started a new project on my drop spindle, a blend of two different greenish Polwarth fibres, and I got to use my blending board for the first time in forever. I'm also spinning from rolags for the first time in forever but muscle memory is kicking in. https://img3.pillowfort.social/posts/ab03110d7b99327ae57b_small.jpeg

I took a long walk at the cemetery yesterday and I saw kingfishers! There are always a couple of breeding pairs there but I never saw them for more than the blink of an eye before, and never more than onw

tfw you buy a mango, wait for it to grow ripe, take it to work as breakfast and then it's not ripe but already brown inside. At least my hissing roaches are enjoying it (they love mango more than anything)

I'm making pulled pork and after seven hours, it's just about done. Now it gets to rest under the covers of the bed for a bit while I successfully burned my tongue tasting the sauce. But it will be so worth it. I bought a bit more meat than I wanted and during preparation had the extreme first world problem of 'the roast doesn't fit into the opening of the 3l freezer bag'. It will be pulled pork for literal days.

Well, I guess Germany is the Chernobyl meme right now. We didn't fuck it up but we could have done SO MUCH BETTER. My home city is solidly socialist and green party, so there's that at least.

I went to the park yesterday to feed the crow army, but I didn't see the hooded crow. All the crocuses are in full bloom, and it was almost warm enough to walk around in a tshirt while the sun was out.

I weeded all the computer and programming books at the library, it was high time. My favourite find was a book on how to monetise Tumblr, that is so fucking funny to me. Tumblr! Of all things LOL

Every time a piece of media is like *somethingsomething Exclusion Zone* I cannot resist. Chernobyl and the tail end of the Cold War as formative experiences I guess.

I sat and read for two hours for the first time in AGES - I do read a lot again but not for such a long-ishstretch at a time. Currently reading: Milkweed Trilogy by Ian Tregillis, it's a reread and I am enjoying it a lot. British warlocks vs Nazi supersoldiers. If you like Tim Powers, you might enjoy this one.

That took me longer to find than it should have because I looked for it as metal but it's crustpunk, apparently, which is a genre I barely know exists. But anyway: Watership Down concept album trilogy by Fall of Efrafa, you should listen to it. It's WAY softer than you probably think, long complex tracks, gloomy and emotional, I abolutely love it. => https://fallofefrafa.bandcamp.com/

I went for a walk this morning to feed the crow army (they do love peanuts in the shell). I also saw the first crocuses, a lot of snowdrops and winter aconites, and the witch hazels are in full bloom. Despite the bitterly cold wind, it felt like spring.
