I’ve purged some of my post I don’t want to be on my capsule anymore. Mainly things where I’m constantly changing opinion about something, criticizing things or just my opinion diverged so much that I no longer agree with my past-self.

Sorry for breaking links!

I’ve just updated my Nextcloud instance twice in few days. Fist update required manual intervention, second one was less problematic sans typical `occ db:add-missing-indices` and `occ maintenance:repair –include-expensive`. I’m literally having more maintenance with Nextcloud than with my whole email setup…

But I’m stuck with Nextcloud. As I personally would love some simpler solution, my GF regularly uses it (to share file with somebody when it’s too bit to attach it to email) and my family uses it from time to time (to send me thousands of very similar photos from trips) and for them less user friendly solution would be hard sell…

Mesa (on AMD) in Alpine’s edge repository has been a little bit fussy since yesterday and GUI apps are mostly non-functional 😝. Well, that’s edge for you… But ttys are still working and I have my work-and-spare machine on Debian stable so this is minor inconvenience for me.

I’ve just watched all available episodes of “Murder Drones” on YouTube. Holy sh*t this one is great. Definitely can recommend it.

Hi, due my old certificate causing some problems I've regenerated certificates for my capsule: aelspire.info.

Let me know if something is still not working… Thanks!

I’ve published new post:

gemini://aelspire.info/posts/2024-06-07-openbsd/post.gmi

This is not objective review of OpenBSD but fun post about adventure with OpenBSD from long time Linux user perspective.

Comments welcome! Especially from OpenBSD users. Do you agree? Disagree? Maybe I forgot to check something cool?

I’ve used the GmCapsule’s gitview to serve my Git repositories from my Forgejo instance at gemini://git.aelspire.info/ and it works great!

Any BSD users here? I want to install some kind of BSD on some old laptop to check how it works. I've 0 exerience with BSD but I'm long time Linux user. I've heard that OpenBSD is better tested on a casual HW than much more popular FreeBSD, so I'm not sure which one should I choose anymore… I want to give some BSD a fair chance to impress me by really using it for some time so I think I'll find time to check only one of them.

I've decided to stop waiting for something that isn't gonna happen any time soon and added stechbook with my 3D works to my capsule: gemini://aelspire.info/gallery-of-shame/experiments-and-practice/index.gmi

I've recently thought what file type should I use to publish content on Gemini if gemtext is not sufficient. First one that comes to mind is PDF but I really like ODT (from LibreOffice). I actually like to use LibreOffice to make some rich documents. I was using latex in the past but I was missing seeing the final document form without any compilation on extra steps. It is important for storing notes or recipes. Compiling documents to see the output seems cumbersome for me.

I’m actually typing this post in LibreOffice too. It has character counter, spell check etc.

So, what’s your thought on ODF’s formats?

I've added new post on my capsule: gemini://aelspire.info/posts/2023-09-30-distrohopping/post.gmi

This time I'm summarising my latest distrohopping attempts and explained why I realized that systemd is not so bad and might actually be something good. I'm not sure yet.

My girlfriend is a teacher in elementary school, and took some of school's laptops with Windows 10 to home to reainstall fresh OS on them and clean any residual data left after last year.

One laptop refused to restart to factory and I needed to reinstall OS. It failed once (stuck on preparing system screen) I installed it again and it broke itself doing update, and any "problem solving" tool just waste time to show that is was unable to fix problem. So I reinstalled it again and again it tries to update but now it is stuck installing it which is known problem:

I've recently migrated from Arch Linux to Debian on work laptop and Alpine Linux on my destkop.

I'm liking it so far. But I've expected much more problems with Alpine Linux as desktop main driver (I've used Alpine on server on Orange Pi PC before). Everything just works? I had my dotfiles in backup so installation and system configuration was breeze. Kinda anticlimactic, I'm barely noticing that I distrohopped.

I'll write post on my capsule when I play with it a little bit more to gain more insight.

Sometimes the more you learn about something the less you like that thing:

Anybody have any comment on it? Maybe I'm making a mistake here…

This is my first post, so hello ;)

I'm got jelaous that all cool applications on gemini, so I'm thinking about changing my gemini server from agate to gmid and make something interesting.

And I've a few questions:

Is gmid good idea or you are recommedning something else?

Im torn between FastCGI and good ol' CGI, FastCGI seems to have little support in Gemini. Does your server support FastCGI?

Even if your server support FastCGI, do you think it is good idea? Maybe it is not wort to sacriface support for more gemini serveris for uncertain performance gains.
