I’ve just updated my Nextcloud instance twice in few days. Fist update required manual intervention, second one was less problematic sans typical `occ db:add-missing-indices` and `occ maintenance:repair –include-expensive`. I’m literally having more maintenance with Nextcloud than with my whole email setup…

But I’m stuck with Nextcloud. As I personally would love some simpler solution, my GF regularly uses it (to share file with somebody when it’s too bit to attach it to email) and my family uses it from time to time (to send me thousands of very similar photos from trips) and for them less user friendly solution would be hard sell…

Yea Nextcloud is a beast! I run a SaaS company that hosts and maintains Nextcloud instances for clients. For upgrades, I rename the old www dir, unzip the new release in it's place, run occ upgrade, then occ db:add-missing-indices, occ maintenance:repair --include-expensive, then re-install my selected apps (using occ app:install), all inside an automated upgrade.sh script. Works well and keeps all my client instances up to date. · 2 months ago

@m0xee I’ve heard about slcl and was really, really close to migrate to it after some problems with Nextcloud in the past. But retraining my parents and GF to new cloud software will probably be harder than maintaining Nextcloud… · 2 months ago

@m0xee pretty neat. I'll give it a try. NextCloud isn't bad it's just ... a beast and in my case terribly slow. Even thought about one day just pushing myself to make a reasonable replacement. · 2 months ago

I'm using slcl ( https://gitea.privatedns.org/xavi/slcl ) which is in plain C, thus very light on resources, and has a web interface that works even in w3m and on a decades old phone. But yeah, from the point of user-friendliness it might be a hard sell. · 2 months ago

Well, that’s life. My family has priority over my minimal-and-simple-software-OCD. · 2 months ago
