The simple ones:
Covid => lots of people staying in, more demand.
Holidays => lots of people buying gifts, more demand.
New consoles => The consoles use much of the same production capacity that could otherwise go to desktop CPUs/GPUs. Less supply.
More complicated:
Lots of upgrade cycles coming due. Nvidia is on a roughly two year release cycle, and the 20 series was underwhelming. The 30 series is a compelling upgrade for both traditional games and makes raytracing more viable.
Meanwhile AMD hasn't had a flagship GPU contender since...2015?
And on the CPU side of things, Ryzen 5000 is a significant upgrade to lots users who have been sticking to their aging quad-core Intel builds. And it's a drop-in replacement for lots of 1000/2000/3000 Ryzen users.
