Individual donations as small as what Reddit could donate to a lab to create a vaccine will never be enough. Our lab in Saskatoon has been donated 28 million dollars to create a vaccine for Covid19 there now in Trials do you know how long this will take and how much money it will take there's no point in donating to a single individual lab because that money will go nowhere. The best strategy right now for vaccinations would be to donate one single large entity who can divide the money into a larger donations to individual lab that will be able to create the vaccines.

Edited to add: Suggesting it go to homelessness or shelters or food banks may be more valid if you want it to 'go to the people'.
