My sister was crying last night in bed, singing a song she had made up about how she missed going to school, and how she missed her friends. Mom had to quit her job as a nurse because she was immuno compromised and her hospital would not provide basic face masks. I lost my job because the whole business shut down a week before mandatory quarantine. My dad is barely holding things together as a web developer. I'm fortunate that I have a home, a car, and no debt, but even so we're struggling with anxiety, depression, and worse. To everyone out there who is suffering, in better or worse conditions than I am, we can do this, if we all band together. I've seen too many people take the motto "every man for themselves." I haven't been able to buy TP in a month because of people like this. Please, be considerate, stay inside, and stay calm. We'll get through this.
Edit: And to Reddit staff, shame. Don't donate to the WHO. They have mony. Donate to the independent labs across the world developing vaccines and test kits because governments aren't doing enough on their own. Donate to people who have lost their family members, their homes, their cars. I understand the sentiment you're trying to make but it's pointed at the wrong people.

By checking the website[1], we see that the total of donations as of 10am EST on April 3^rd is...
1: https://covid19responsefund.org/
While I applaud Reddit's intent to encourage the userbase to donate money in the global fight against COVID-19, the WHO's fund is sitting on over a hundred. million. dollars.
Combine that with the way the WHO and the UN does whatever the five members of the UN Security Council tells them to, as a price of being allowed to exist in the first place, and the ramifications of that mandate as seen with anything involving China and Taiwan, and I really, really, **really** think Reddit should find another COVID-19 charity to support.

Individual donations as small as what Reddit could donate to a lab to create a vaccine will never be enough. Our lab in Saskatoon has been donated 28 million dollars to create a vaccine for Covid19 there now in Trials do you know how long this will take and how much money it will take there's no point in donating to a single individual lab because that money will go nowhere. The best strategy right now for vaccinations would be to donate one single large entity who can divide the money into a larger donations to individual lab that will be able to create the vaccines.
Edited to add: Suggesting it go to homelessness or shelters or food banks may be more valid if you want it to 'go to the people'.

To add to this , Reddit should try and donate to other institutions that are on the forefront fighting Corona and are short on funds and materials.

Agree on this wholeheartedly
The WHO are a joke and are still perpetuating this lie that masks don't work, in addition to delaying calling* the pandemic a pandemic because of their funding from china
never work with the WHO.

As per top comment, current donations are at $127k. That's enough to support maybe 50 families for one month? So who gets the money? How would it get to the families. What about the other 150 million households? Your suggestion doesn't make sense at scale. Don't shame.

Do you need TP? I’m still on quarantine from being sick, but I have some extra I’d be willing to ship early next week. DM me if you need to. I’ve got other supplies, and I work for a grocery store, so I’d also be willing to pick you up a few things.

Yeah we should be joining together and helping each other out. Thru these hard times, but The Who is not our friend. They waited weeks before declaring this a pandemic, cause they had bonds they would have defaulted on if they declared it to soon. They were directly connected to event 201 along with the world economic forum. Playing a “simulated” scenario with f the effects on the world of a release of the same virus from the same area months before.
They invested so much in this they made fake news reports which literally where about combating fake news(ironic) and more. And when questioned you get some bullshit responses. I don’t care what side of the camp you are with vaccines. Bill gates and The Who should not be trusted when it comes to developing a vaccine. He has invested interests in ID2020, which involves mass chipping of the population through a vaccine. Also how before the outbreak apparently China, now I don’t remember my sources for this one. They were giving a heavier dosage of the flu vaccine which ended making them sick. Along with most times flu related deaths happen. Well what do you expect when most of them contain formaldehyde and mercury. Which is freaking toxic. China knows this got out of a lab in wuhan. Hell look into Charles lieber the Harvard professor that was getting paid by the Chinese and his leading edge work in nano tech. But Chinese paid for reddit wants you to only see one perspective. Italy is seeking damages from China, cause this was in part their fault. Btw more information is being unsealed about Jeffery Epstein you know the fellow that didn’t kill himself. Funny how the timing where many major people are under investigation for their connections to him and crimes against humanity and This is released. Btw not only did one of the members of The Who that attended event 201 die mysteriously but let’s not forget because he wants you to that bill gates was real good friends with Jeff Epstein even flying on the Lolita express.
The most contagious thing about this virus is misinformation by the main stream. Don’t live in fear turn off the news and be with your family. Do the thing a you couldn’t do before cause you had no time. Meditate love yourself never live in fear and be there for each other.

I under the sentiment about WHO, but I do think it's worth mentioning that WHO is able to give grants to independent R&D labs that are working on vaccines. Generally grants tend to work well in science because there's (normally) specific language that states how the money should be spent. This can be really helpful because it's easy to blow through money in R&D. Granted, this is all based on purely anecdotal evidence; I'm a researcher in the biotech industry and this has just been my experience.

Why not say you are sad and worried about the current situation & circumstances? What is it with Americans' obsessions over using terms for psychiatric illnesses to describe normal and appropriate responses the their situation?

If you wanna support science, please do donate to WHO, they outsource resources and inform the public, which is crucial in these times. They use their influence as a known organization to debunk myths about the virus and inform people about the right course of action. Or donate to universities already doing the research. Or donate to medical staff. Not random labs. People always think 'oh big organizations have unlimited funds'. They don't. Research isn't like that.
If you wanna support people, support the people, of course. That is however, a different aim (nonetheless necessary and amazing).
And sorry for what your family has been through. My family, and I, were also all fired/out of employment but my mom, so I can definitely understand where you are coming from. We, too are fortunate enough to have a bit of savings, but in separate countries, and shit is scary. Your sister sounds wonderful, and I hope you are all safe and well.

WHO is using the money donated first to conduct research on how the virus behaves in pregnant women and to learn what risk children (and the mother) may be at. They also mention that they’re concurrently funding studies on vaccine development and learning how the virus fairs when on surfaces @ different temps & different humidities. Why would you say “don’t donate money to WHO?” Cmon
