My thought exactly- and since OP has had similar experiences, you'd think he'd be intimately aware of how to navigate verbiage around that sort of thing in order to be as sensitive/kind as possible. The fact that he went the other direction is alarming.

Men are rewarded for being extroverted. Part of extroversion is spewing out whatever comes to your mind and letting the crowd sort it out.
Men are also rewarded for being funny and charismatic.
Furthermore, men don’t usually have many people (other than close family and rarely friends) stand up to them and say “hey, that’s some ignorant shit, you should feel bad”
Mix those three things together and you get men who try to be funny by saying stupid shit (maybe it’s how they feel or maybe it just sounded funny in their mind) and expect a chuckle and no pushback.
