View submission: If a U.S. president attempted to dismantle democracy or impose authoritarian rule, how would the military likely respond? Would they prioritize their oath to the Constitution or follow orders from leadership?

I have worried and wondered for years that the military increasingly can’t get the highest quality of candidates they used to be able to. Every service has made concessions to allow increasingly unfit people from serving. The Air Force I knew 1996-2000 seems nothing like now.

I’d love to know what you mean by increasingly unfit.

My perception: service members right now seem angry and hateful and very much caught up in MAGA. I don’t think they see the bigger picture of our country’s values outside of party politics as much as they used to, or upholding the Constitution.
