Gemini feels less active to me than it was a year ago. Maybe I just have rosey memories.

Users need to find new an unique purposes for gemini:// protocol. Geminispace can't just be a xerox of whatever is going on outside. From my experience, new networks rarely get unique software. Look at Tor. Very few original purposes, just clearnet-style pages behind onion addresses, but it's anonymity is its killer app. For Geminispace to remain active over the long term, original ideas will have to be introduced. What is the killer app for Gemini? Personally, I think it's guaranteed simplicity, which can be like a privacy/security layer over other networks, like Tor, which provide other benefits. Package it together the right way and *BAM* you have something. · 2 years ago
@skyjake I did not know about those stats, thank you! It looks like my concern is perhaps unfounded. Good to see that!
I agree about Gemini is what you make of it. I'm still loving the protocol and will use it for my own personal information log (wiki) regardless of the popularity. · 2 years ago
I want to host one or more capules but I want a solid idea first, buy domain(s) etc... I like the idea of a capsule for a few different genres of amateur fiction. A capsule with some more games would be great including some original IF (I know @skyjake is working on an IF project at the mo) · 2 years ago
I agree, it comes and goes.
just like my own participation. this is why I make local copies now of pages I want folks to read
I've only started being a longer form writer online since coming here and Gemini is basically my only form of online social interaction.
I still plan to stick around. · 2 years ago
I agree with @cobradile94 : dead links/capsules are a problem. some nice stuff I found months ago is no longer available. This might be due to the fact that most capsules are self-hosted. · 2 years ago
Ask not what Geminispace can do for you — ask what you can do for Geminispace.
In other words, small spaces warrant active participation. Significant churn is to be expected; much of this is experimental and transient, and self-hosted by individuals.
If you haven’t hit upon this already, some statistics:

I can only speak for myself, but I feel like I’ve explored most of the gemini space, and half of the links in the orbits are dead, so I tend to not come here as often. That and the novelty has sort of wore off. I still like to come here from time to time, but not as active as I once was.
LEO really needs to remove dead links. · 2 years ago
