What would be the cruelest yet still effective way of writing a Gemini client? I'm thinking of a MS Word document whose content is a rendering of a Gemini page, then uses VBA to refresh itself. Can you get more cursed than that?

A Powerpoint presentation from about 1997 with Clippy who says "It seems like you are trying to view a Gemini page. Do you need any assistance?". The PPT is generated from the Gemini page and each slide contains a link and text from the Gemini page. Each slide has a randomly chosen animation for you to appreciate (fade in, bounce, wipe from left etc). You have to watch the show (unable to skip through any slides) to the slide having the link you wish to traverse next. You select the next link, at which point, it fires up a copy of Chrome to a 10mb React webpage that generates the next PPT show to download... 路 3 years ago
A Minecraft mod where you form the URL from alpha-numeric blocks, activate with a redstone torch, which causes the page to be fetched and then rendered in the sky using various coloured blocks. Punching a link will automatically fetch and render, because you're not a complete sadist. 路 3 years ago

Make sure that MS word is running on wine in a virtualized Mac running in a VM in a docker conntainer on AWS. Have it export screenshots and upload them imgur and post links to them on twitter. To get it to browse a page, send it a message. 路 3 years ago

thanks for your suggestions :) I feel none of these are actually very practical, but entertaining nonetheless. I will admit to too much googling to see if it is possible to get VBA to initiate a TLS call using standard libraries. The short answer is Not Really (TM). Now on the other hand, if there was a mercury server up that didnt require TLS, it could be done....... Maybe I should do something more productive with my life....... 路 3 years ago
