I鈥檝e began to notice that since I鈥檝e been using Station, I don鈥檛 care about how many likes or followers I get, like I did when I was on big tech social media. Instead, I look forward to seeing people鈥檚 replies and actually having a conversation. Makes me think how social media has never been about being social, but rather it just being a popularity contest. Anyone else notice this?

@gnuserland I really hope it doesn鈥檛. I genuinely enjoy it here 路 3 years ago
@kevinsan Yeah, that鈥檚 how I see the thumbs system here. Not to add to any statistics or boost egos, but to legitimately for when you have nothing to say, but you still support the OP. 路 3 years ago
I really enjoy Station although is an experimental project and can close anytime without prior notice.
I'd like to a have a Stations Federation where anyone can host its own instance and federate with the others Stations like a real federated sci-fi galaxy! 馃槑 路 3 years ago
I can see why thumbs-ups were implemented here. Sometimes I have nothing substantial to add, but just want to say "that's interesting, I want to encourage you". At the same time, who am I to burden you with my encouragement and the implied obligations that it entails? The mere presence of the feature creates onus, but the interpretation of it is vague. Ultimately, it gets a thumbs-down from me. 路 3 years ago
Agreed. I think the gamification of socializing has been very bad for everybody involved. Social media should be about talking, and I'm glad (for now) Station seems to agree with me! 路 3 years ago
It's nice to see that other people saw your post, but otherwise the "likes" do seem unnecessary. 路 3 years ago
