Getting tired of ending up in bastions of either right-wing wackoes or fringe left-wing wackoes that spew a bunch of convoluted "anti-" this and "anti-" that terms at things they hate without any sense of logical reasoning. What am I? I'm anti-apathetic, anti-militant, anti-radical, anti-selfish, anti-anti-establishmentarianalismicalantism. If I use the longest word, does that make my position stronger?
Philosophers and writers don't speak that way - the parroting off a bunch of anti-crap. Those who care for their positions know how to explain them without being pretentious, and they certainly don't say one thing, then turn around and say a slightly different thing that means something totally different.

@winco I think you need to look for how far apart the viewpoints tolerated in a space are for figuring out how lightly moderated a space is, TBH. Lots of spaces out there with plenty of content I'd hope most people would consider offensive (as "offensive" is subjective), but which don't tolerate opposing perspectives. ยท 8 months ago
I get that. Though as a fan of free speech, probably the best test for how free it is in a space is look for the most offensive thing you can. The more offensive things there are, the freer the speech is.
The thing is, the people who's voices you object to have ended up in some of these places is because they were thrown from less free areas.
Fortunately, the bar of entry is sufficiently high enough for some of these areas, like this one (a gemini forum) that it filters out the more volitile people.

Sorry if that's a bit rambly and vague. ยท 8 months ago
I don't remember where it came from, but a quote I appreciate: "To be united in ire is to stand for nothing." ยท 8 months ago
