The weather this weekend has been fantastic. Three fully clear nights in a row with great conditions. This does not happen often enough.
I can still vividly remember the impression that the Veil Nebula left on me when I first observed it last November. Some targets seem to imprint themselves in your brain and will never leave you, this was one of those targets.
I started a little later tonight to help ensure that our neighbors went to bed and left their lights off. It took 30 minutes or more to locate the target. I ended up finding the West Veil Nebula first (specifically the part that looks like a crooked finger) but decided to sketch the east side instead. It produces a nice and sharp crescent in the eyepiece on first impression, then when employing AV the crescent began to fill out toward the west.
At some point, if I can get the 2" 28mm ultra-wide eye piece that I've been planning on, I'll attempt another sketch of this with both the East and West side in the FoV together.
