View submission: Improving walkability cost me an election

This is definitely a problem in major cities. We’ve been trying to improve walkability and do major structural improvements in Minneapolis, MN and it’s done nothing but piss everyone off (no matter the chances have caused crime to drop and businesses to improve).

The biggest thing I’ve heard so far is businesses (almost always bars or restaurants owned by boomer/genx) suddenly hating that they are no longer the most popular in an area because the other shops are more accessible.

Yeah, people have been really bitching about the new bus lanes in Minneapolis. I’m considering writing a letter in support of them. At the risk of doxxing myself - I live near one and love how much safer I feel when crossing the road at non-traffic light areas cuze it usually gives me an extra barrier to check for incoming traffic. I’m thinking about writing an op-Ed to counteract the negative ones I’ve seen, this gave me the push to do it I think

You're doing the right thing, trust me. As a native Texan, you can imagine the miserable state of our cities... Well, I've had Minneapolis on my radar for a while now as a potential future home if my current plans of moving abroad don't work out.

The city caught my attention because of the praise it has been getting for it's amazing bikeability and positive strides in public transit. While there may be some particularly vocal haters in the city, there are quite a lot of people watching with interest from around the country.
