Yeah, this screams projection about OP’s history as a smoker. Not all drugs are the same, and not all drugs are harmful. Caffeine is honestly probably the most benign recreational drug you can think of.

But similar to other drugs too much too soon can lead to problems. In the case of caffeine that would be heart problems.

Caffeine heads are wayyyy more annoying than any smokers habit I've come across. It's like having to deal with a bipolar addict because their moods are so volatilely affected by external factors. "I am just not awake today. I had to skip my coffee" "I have a really bad hangover. Not from drinking. Didn't have my cuppa joe before work" "You'll have to forgive me I am a ditz without my coffee, so brain fogged today." And of course the constant need to have a cup in close proximity, stopping road trips just to get one even if not driving (they've already had plenty to keep them awake either way), being so distracted by their thoughts on where and how to get a cup that they aren't paying attention to what you're saying. And when they've had too much and don't realize they are acting hyper and fidgety. Constantly talking about how coffee makes them feel good. And God forbid you go to their house and turn down their offer for a cup of coffee. They'll ask you 10 times. "you sure you don't want a cup? Just brewed it". Let's not forget how they'll start another pot before the end of the visit. It's draining to be around them when they are having one of these swings, to say the least.

My source? Family and friends whose behavior changed when they started drinking coffee..
