There's way more foliage than usual. I think that was an early promotional picture too.

Yeah, this comparison is inaccurate. Low res screenshot of the back of the head in skyrim.

Did you play it on PC? I remember cranking everything to max on the PC and it looked pretty much like that. Granted my PC could only actually handle the game well enough for it to be playable at that state a few years later.

That is probably a PC screenshot, I actually just played Oblivion about a year ago and looked like that. I was able to crank all the settings to max, same as Skyrim (which looks much better than the shot here).

When it came out it was by far one of the best looking games anyone had ever seen. I think a lot of the environments still hold up really well, it's the character models that look dated.

I laugh at Bethesda's pathetic claims that Skyrim has new engine. New engine my ass. Granted, they heavily modified and optimized it, so what, now you can slap a new name and call it a new engine? Nu-uh. Admit it, when you play Skyrim at times you feel like you're playing Fallout 3. Same shitty distant land, same bloody critical strike cutscenes, similar gameplay. Also, if you look under the hood, the config files, it's all the same. It even has the same shitty mouse acceleration/lag in menus that's been here since New Vegas. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good game and I enjoy it a lot. But them calling it "a new engine" just pisses me off.
