Sorry if it came across a bit blunt! I do think we are social creatures and inherently crave acceptance from a tribe of like minded people. And when we are lacking that it does feel lonely! So definitely still search for connections with people who share your interests. I am trying to say that just because finding your people is a positive thing, others not being your vibe does not have to be a negative. It can be neutral.

This attitude shift has helped me in coming out of depression (I’m also on antidepressants and seeing a therapist to be clear, so I’m not saying it’s that easy!)

I like the people I work with but they are all obsessed with reality tv and I will never care about that. I just don’t participate in those conversations and it doesn’t make me like them any less. The important thing for me is to not let myself feel excluded because of it.

It can be hard when other people do actually exclude you. I have definitely worked / socialised in environments where there was more pressure to conform and I used to do it. It was draining and really affected my mental health (thank god I will never watch the kardashians again just because everyone else was 😂 )

A huge shift for me in living simply has been in letting go of caring what others think of me. If they don’t like me because I don’t follow the latest trends then clearly they are not for me.

Living in a way that aligns with your values is not always easy, especially in our current society. To me It is worth it for the peace though.

And I’ll take a bit of loneliness over pretending to care about reality tv stars any day!
