I'm also not opposed to the concepts of avatar costumes/styles for purchase. I just don't know why they need to be NFTs.

Why not just make your own artwork for your profile pic? That's what I've done. Though it's pretty basic, my "Much More Matt" design belongs to me and I can use it anywhere to help others identify myself on those platforms.
