It's not a problem removing - the mods there seem to have been doing a great job with the post they discuss in the modsupport post I linked and removing hate.

It's what Reddit does when those comments are reported, as the post explains the error rate on actioning reports for hate content is depressingly bad.

Looking at the unedited thread for the very example he gives, it has dozens of completely harmless comments removed. They deleted a comment by someone talking about how he or she enjoys rock climbing as a physical activity to stay in shape. What on earth would make someone look at that and say "Yeah, that's toxic and dangerous to the community. That comment has to go"?

The problem here is overactive moderation, not underactive.
