I think you over estimate the amount. I don't have the apple App Store, but the Google Play Store doesn't even break 25 million downloads for third parties, while the official app has over 100 million.

I dont disagree that the features are needed, and hopefully, reddit will notice that and implement some changes.

But it is reddit's property. Most large companies 'lease' their property, and it sounds mostly like that is what reddit is going to start doing. And as far as the NSFW stuff goes there is plenty of places to get that and reddit is much more than all of that. If they want to control the NSFW stuff and their exposure to legality that is associated with it I think that is fair.
