Honest question - do people that do food delivery like this, actually make any money after gas, car wear and tear, maintenance, taxes, etc?

You can track your mileage (miles between dashing) and file it on your taxes. You do have to be picky with orders you take and make sure you don’t take anything less than a dollar a mile or whatever you find works best for you. Pick busy days and areas to dash in and take benefit in the added bonuses when available.

It's only really good for needing money fast. Not something long-term. I did it during peak covid in the summer of 2020, and it was good then only because indoor dining was closed and everybody was ordering online. The long term, however , is a terrible job for the reasons you mentioned

I did the math and it cost me $0.48/mile so as long as I’m taking 1$/mile orders I’m making twice what it cost me. Not that it’s good but honestly it’s about the same after expenses that I made serving tables and I’m not forced to wait on people who don’t tip I get to pick and choose what orders I do
