How is it in this city?

I did it a few nights a week because I work from home and wanted to get out of the house. I would make an extra $200-$300 for a few nights of dashing. It was just extra spending money. But now I'm too busy with work and don't have the time to do it anymore.
The best advice I can give you is dash somewhere where you can get a delivery close to where you drop off. For example: Knightdale is not good because everything is right there on Knightdale Blvd and you have to leave there to go do a delivery and then drive back to Knightdale Blvd.
North Raleigh between Wake Forest Rd and Crabtree is pretty good.
Dashing in downtown is more annoying than anything else. So many apartments. Sometimes parking downtown can be a pain also.
And just stay out of East Raleigh.

Honest question - do people that do food delivery like this, actually make any money after gas, car wear and tear, maintenance, taxes, etc?

Most people suck and don’t tip, but every once in a while you get a generous customer. Only worth it if you decline like 90% of offers

Did DoorDash. Made over $20/hr on average gross. But this doesn’t include taxes or wear and tear and gas. I converted to using my motorcycle, delivering pizza boxes on the back and definitely helped with the income. I worked lunch rush (11a-1p) and after work (4p-7p). Other times, it wasn’t worth it for me but your experience can be different. I worked lunch rush in tech and gives me the flexibility to step out for hours.
Just be weary of where you choose to dash. In Durham, I was taking orders of $10 for 45 mins of driving, but in Cary, my best run was $4 on a 0.5 mile trip.
Make sure to take advantage of the surges and know what’s going on in your area. Rainy days, and app was going crazy. When NC fair is in town, app registered Cary was backed up, but that was east cary. I delivered in west Cary and was making a ton as no backup there, but got all the boost from the fair.

If you want to pay double for your food and have it arrive cold, it's fine.

I am very smart about how I accepted orders and I never drive over 4 miles (total per order) and I made about $300 per weekend day and $175 on weekdays. I have been doing it for four years now. I think if you’re smart about it, you can make a huge profit.

Don’t know because I’m still on the “You will receive a response in 24-48 hours.” That’s been on for the last 3 weeks

As a customer - it’s fine.
