View submission: Movies that were perfectly cast
Well, he IS suppose to be a whiny naive teenager. Nailed it pretty well, I think.
It's the subsequent refusal to grow up in the next two films that really drive me insane. It's why I give how he's shown in Last Jedi a pass. The Skywalker line has one major failing: ANY of them, if they can't do it right the first time they give up immediately. And that is consistent throughout every film. Excepting maybe Leia. But she was instilled with good values from her adopted parents so I don't think she counts.
Luke can't block the training droid, gives up and has to have Ben push him. Luke can't lift the X-wing after being told multiple times he can, he gives up, and gets shown up by a little green troll in the forest. Luke can't save his father and *nearly fucking kills him* and it isn't until the Emperor heckles him that he stops himself. The only time...THE ONLY TIME....Luke actually improves himself ON HIS OWN...is when he doesn't kill his nephew in a moment of weakness. He didn't have Ben to stop him. He didn't have Yoda to tell him he's an idiot. He didn't have the Emperor to egg him on. He did it under his own will power. Fuck anyone who says that was a character regression.
There's nothing here!
