As much as I love Part II, Clemenza was absolutely missed. Pentangeli was a great character but I preferred Clemenza. For me, Vito's backstory was my favorite aspect of the film.

Richard Castellano made an error with his demands almost as tragically as Marcus Chong with The Matrix and Terrence Howard with Iron Man franchises. If all three just went along with reasonable but slightly below standard offers, it would have paid off incredibly.

Michael Gazzo offered a bit more depth with Pentangeli, both as a traditional mob boss while complex enough to know ancient history and his role in Corleone scheming. I never saw Clemenza discussing the Romans

I agree, it's brave to have the film go off on this tangent and it turns into a completely different movie for a reasonable chunk of the runtime. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon did the same and I loved it in that too.
