it's not just that. This is not a "we're switching to a new frontend, the old one will be available but not updated" type of scenario. The entire point of the new system will be to make it easier for new features to be implemented by reddit devs without worrying about breaking css. This means that when enough people switch over to the new system, changes will be made that will consider css an edge case, and break it.
