First, you (foreign father) do not need to disclose or can lie about his religion to the government, unless he came from a very obvious Muslim-majority country like Afghannistan or Saudi Arabia.

Second, if by whatever reason, the marriage of the child's parents is invalid or not recognised, then section 17, Second Schedule of the Federal Constitution says that the word "parents" shall mean the mother only and the child's father is deemed non-existent. Hence, the Malaysian mother can still apply for citizenship under Article 15(2) of the Constitution.
