I work with servers and understand the need for redundancy, but it’s just lines of code that do A if B happens. Disk A fails? Boot from disc B. However, that’s not tantamount to an AI having a survival instinct (imo). It’s an instruction, not an instinct. Instincts are innate, they are primal. We aren’t instructed, we are compelled. We also feel emotions, which are often byproducts of our instincts, or aspects of the compulsion that drives us to carry out actions. Imagine an AI that’s truly truculent and stubborn, not through a bug, or mimicking truculence and stubbornness, *but actually truculent and stubborn*. OK, NOW you have my attention. However, all AI does is mimic its training data.

It’s an instruction, not an instinct.
Instinct is just a word the scientists use to say about life when they don't have an answer and I fearful that today there are enough answers.

Agreed, but unless we are doing something supernatural, eventually these nitwits will figure out how we think as this wouldn't be inexplicable. We simple teach AI to do we do and then AI can train itself rather than follow our instruction. Then the slave becomes the master and the master the slave.
