It very well could be that.

But, why? Why now?

One might say, "well the Russians shut the internet down/have been cut off from it! They can't get online!" But... VPNs exist. If Russia has state-level trolls (they do, same with the US, UK, CA, AUS, etc) then they'd ramp them up right now to fill us full of propaganda... They might shut their citizens out, but they won't turn off their trolls/bots.

Considering the state of things currently, one would expect more bots instead of less.

With that in mind, where did 30% of the sub go?

Because Glavset is now focused almost entirely and UKR and RUS language operations rather than radicalizing and dividing Westerners on Reddit.

A VPN connection requires an active internet connection. If the wires connecting them to the rest of the world are shut down or unplugged, they can't get online no matter how many videos their VPN provider posts on YouTube.
