Over the past couple of weeks, I've watched the avg concurrent user count drop from around 7-9k to 3-5k here - we're currently at 4.6k at the time of writing this. Anyone that has been here for a while will know that this sub is almost always sitting around 7-9k online unless something wild happens and it spikes to 20-40k+. Previously, it almost never dropped below 7k, in fact, I can't remember seeing it <7k this consistently for years.

I don't know if it's organic or not, but losing 30% of a sub's active userbase is probably something worth noting.

One thing that hasn't slowed down is the flow of "new" content. If anything, it has increased. Again, don't know if it's organic but it's odd either way.

edit: Hi, TMOR! Thanks for the brigade!

edit #2 for posterity: 2-months later and the user count has returned to "normal". It jumped back up a couple of days ago and has consistently been around the previous level. Weird.

Have you considered that many of your info experts here might be foreign entities paid to disrupt Western economic and political security?

It's losing subs because most of the 'new content' is a bunch of trash posts that appear to have been put together by an individual without the ability to think critically or edgelords expressing how depressed they are while sitting on their iPhones scrolling Reddit for 16 hours a day.

This sub became absolute trash once it turned into an American politics dumping ground so it's been dead for a long time

Quantity up, quality down. Posts here used to be both well written, thought out, and asked questions.

What I see now is, well, the opposite of that really.

Well the Russian troll farms got cut off, that's your 2k right there.

If we get all the state PsyOps out, we probably have at best 2k real people here.

Could be alot of the more active user base got sick and tired of seeing the exact same posts posted for well over a year every single day about covid and the vaccines that eventually people who came here got tired of seeing it and don't lurk or browse here anymore (I am one of those who kind of gave up lurking here because it was the same thing over and over again -- which was exactly what this sub used to criticize the media for).

imo, the sub was great the first few months or half year of the covid onset (and even better before covid) and then actively got consumed entirely by covid hysteria and panick to the point the entire front page had over 75% of it or more being only covid or vaccine posts every single day (this stat is not empirical, its just what i noticed for the greater part of the last year or so every time i came here to lurk).

A lot of posts recently are... kinda shit. It's just "the media lies to you". While I agree that happens a lot, it doesn't happen ALL the time.

Most posts go like this: "CNN says that Kim Kardashian likes tacos. Why would the media want us to think that? What sort of power play, 4D chess is happening?"

I mean, it was fun at first, but now is just annoying. I gave up long ago on expecting critical thinking in this sub, but now I can't even expect some good imagination.

The Russian propaganda shills and bots are having to pull back and recalibrate their strategies. Looks like funding GOP political operatives, QAnon and driving science and medical misinformation didn't divide the world as well as they'd hoped. NATO and Western alliances are stronger than ever, so now they must turn the ire of categorically uneducated boomers worldwide towards Ukraine's resistance.

Look forward to hearing the usual lineup of conservative conspiratorial talking heads explain why a democratic sovereign nation should capitulate to a fascist dictatorship.

This isn't really even a true conspiracy sub is one major issue. It's a Dem bashing, Alex Jones/Joe Rogan Fan club. I could see how that would tamp down engagemen perhaps. I'm desperate to find a group that knows partisan hack bullshit is meant to distract and divide us peons. The "elite"/illuminati/cabal/whateveryouwannacallit transcend party politics. Maybe I'm just too old to be here. I've been studying conspiracy since the early 90s before there was even an internet. I had to go to my local library, find seminars, conventions, etc to seek out like minded thinkers, to gather and share information. This sub is an echochamber of the same general ideas to the seeming exclusion of different perspectives. This is my very humble opinion. Not sure if it had anything to do with the numbers you mention, but it's hard to want to engage around here sometimes when hero worshipping 45 & his gang of confidence men & grifters isn't your bag.

Probably has something to do with the insane right wing nonsense, distasteful to regular people which is almost all this sub has become.

This is what happens when Russia loses internet. New posts are increased because they have to compensate. Not too difficult to see. Decline happened soon as Russia was disconnected.

A conspiracy about the conspiracy sub? So meta.

It’s like the disappearing Chinese cell phone users at the beginning of the pandemic.

Everybodies getting sick of all the right wing dumb shits. Its been going further and further down hill. This is basically a antivax pro Russia echo chamber now. I've personally been thinking about leaving bc I don't want to be associated with a bunch of traitors and I'm sure many that have left felt the same way. And it sucks bc this place used to be my favorite sub.
