Some users post to their own profile, one example is u/obviousplant, who I follow because it's basically like their subreddit where they post their fake product mockups.

In some cases, people would rather just use their profiles instead of making a new subreddit or posting around a bunch of places every time - for example, obviousplant only posts some of their stuff on other subreddits. What if I want to see their posts but I don't care to join r/surrealmemes or blursed images or wherever else they occasionally post? It solves that relatively niche use case.

Also, I believe comic creators and NSFW accounts have a similar use case, as they will tend to post all their stuff in their profile (as well as r/comics), though maybe you don't want to see all of everyone's webcomics, just follow the one or two that you like.

edit: It's not a hugely useful feature for average redditors, of course, just certain cases.
