First build. Working off specs for MS FlightSim just in case I want to play. It’s really for teen child’s first build for learning code, minecraft, nothing intense. Don’t need the best, just reasonable.

CPU: i5-9600k or should I choose an AMD comp?

MS Flight Sim is probably the hardest mainstream game to run on PC right now, so it's not a great game to base a basic PC off of. Lol

Just for learning coding, playing MC, etc. you can get away with some pretty shitty, outdated specs.

The i5-9600K is decent but it's last-generation, so it better be cheap (think <$150USD). Also keep in mind that it's an overclockable chip, but you'd need a Z390 to take advantage of that feature. If you're not gonna overclock, save your money and get an i5-9400F.

If you want current-generation Intel, you're looking at something like the i5-10600K (overclockable) or i5-10400F (non-OC). The main difference is that these two chips have hyperthreading, which make them really good for highly multi-threaded workloads.

For current gen AMD, you're looking at the R5 3600 as an 'equivalent' chip. It has worse single-threaded performance but has multi-threaded performance close to the i5-10600K. It also runs cooler. They're fucking expensive right now though.

If you really want to save money, check out the R5 3100 or i3-10100 - they're 4-cores instead of 6-cores like the CPUs above, but 4 cores is plenty for basic shit. Might as well save your money and put it towards GPU.

If you *really really* want to save money, get an AMD APU like the R5 3400G - it's a 4-core that has a fairly strong onboard GPU. The GPU isn't good enough for more than Minecraft and some other low-end titles, but it's plenty for basic usage.

And don't forget to factor in the cost of the motherboard as well - a big reason why everyone is buying AMD right now is because their overclockable motherboards are cheap af.

Feel free to ask me about any of this, I understand this is a lot of info lol.

Also seconding the guy that mentioned to check out r/buildapcforme or r/buildmeapc.
