Hi all!
This weekend, Sunday 6th December from 1pm PST / 4pm EST / 9pm GMT onwards we'll be live streaming a PC build for you to watch. The stream will take place on our twitch channel[1] and we're partnering up with LANFest[2] to broadcast it there as well.
1: https://www.twitch.tv/buildapc
This will be an excellent opportunity to watch, learn, and share your knowledge with other PC building enthusiasts.
All are welcome so watch along to get engaged in the discussion, ask questions or simply scream '*No, you don't do it like that!*' at your screen as we build a Ryzen System from start to (hopefully) finish.

Yo! I'm getting all the bits for my boyfriends sons first build, I'm not very gaming PC savvy, so I was going to use PCpartpicker.com for the most of it.
So far I ordered an AMD Ryzen 3 3100 w/ wraith stealth cooler 4 / 8 65W AM4 18MB 3900 MHZ (all of which means nothing to me), and a Cooler Master MasterBox MB311L ARGB MicroATX Mid Tower Case.
For the motherboard, I was reading something about a possible BIOS update for the 3100, any recommendations on one that might not need an update?
Am I doing ok? Is it safe to pretty much use the pcpartpicker.com entry level AMD build guide as well as their compatibility recommendations?
I may have had a mild panic attack when I discovered that the case doesn't have a port for an optical disc reader...

Should I stress test my PC? I had it for a month right now and I’ve never tried stress testing it. So should I?

i have to plug in my headset twice for windows to recognize it.
if i plug it in just once, windows wont pop up the question if its a headset and i cant use it. i have to unplug and replug it for windows to recognize it. any idea what causes this?
also i got a new monitor. i have 2 monitors now and since then, the monitor wont show anything when i boot the PC. i have to turn the PC off and on again for the monitor to get the input signal. i already tried to see if it has the right input. everything seems fine..

Difference between manufacturer versions (of GPUS)? MSI, EVGA, Gigabyte, etc. Are there brands to avoid?

Are there any motherboards out right now that are compatible with Zen 3 but are also future-proof for Zen 4? Last I heard AMD was planning to switch to a new socket with the next generation. I'd like to avoid having to upgrade my motherboard for at least another five years or so.

I'm wanting to upgrade my processor, which i am aware will mean replacing my motherboard and RAM. I don't have a lot of PC building experience (I've replaced a graphics card, CPU cooler and added an extra SSD), but was just wondering if it would be reasonably simple to do this? would i be able to use my existing hard drives etc, or would windows need to be reinstalled. I don't have the budget for a whole new PC so was wondering if i can continue to use everything else?
Current system uses a i7 4770k, Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5 and DDR3 memory (2x8gb 1833mhz). Current graphics card is a 1070 which I will continue to use but want to upgrade to a 3070 next year (hence this post, I think the processor etc might cause a bottleneck?). monitor is 1440p 144hz.
can anyone recommend a motherboard/CPU (I'm thinking AMD).
update: thinking of Ryzen 5 3600, ASUS X570-plus and some DDR4 3200Mhz Ram (corsair), if that makes a difference
Thanks

Hey first time posting here hope I'm doing this right! Looking into upgrade my monitor considering there's sales everywhere this month. Currently have a basic non gaming monitor. My specs Geforce 1060 6GB Intel i5 8400 16GB RAM I mostly play COD, looking forward to CyberPunk. When I play COD with unlimited frames in the settings i hold around 90-100fps. Using Valley Benchmark I hold 120fps on ultra settings. My question : worth it to upgrade to 144hz 1ms monitor, if I can't quite take complete advantage of it? I'm in Canada, with sales I'm looking at 250$ minimum. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Can someone help me figure out why I'm getting below average result for my RTX 3070 on 3DMark?
The average score for R5 3600 and RTX 3070 is 12,000 but I'm only getting 11,700. Here is my result: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/54143802[1][2]

If I’m looking at getting a cpu+mobo combo from micro center to pair with a 5600XT, is there any reason to pay the extra $50 to get the R5 3600 over the i5-9600k?

First build. Working off specs for MS FlightSim just in case I want to play. It’s really for teen child’s first build for learning code, minecraft, nothing intense. Don’t need the best, just reasonable.
CPU: i5-9600k or should I choose an AMD comp?

This may sound like a silly question. But is there any difference performance wise or compatibility of gpus that are duel fan vs three fan? The rx 5600 xt i wanted was out of stock so i decided to get the three fan. But i’m wondering if there is a difference outside of number of fans.

Welllllll, it looks like I messed up with the evga 850w 80+gold ga. It seems to crash 3000 series cards so I need to return it and get a new power supply. Considering that it’s slim pickings, I have some questions on which one is the best option.
5900x
3080 or 3090 which ever I can get my hands on so going for power enough for 3090.
Amazon:
Corsair rm850x white series 80+gold - 294.99, evil.
Asus rog strix 850w white edition 80+gold - 189.99, less evil.
Gigabyte go-p850gm 80+gold (not gonna fall for this like I did with evga) 139.99
I would think both will be ok for upto 3090 but I thought the same for evga 850w. Let’s make sure. Is this good enough?

Any good airflow cube cases for ATX Form factor mobos? I am considering the Corsair Air 540 and the cooler Master HAF XB.

1. i5 10400F ($180) + a Z490 ($170) for a total of $350.
2. i5 10400F + a B460 ($80) for a total of $260.
3. Ryzen 3600 ($200) + a B550 ($100) for a total of $300.
Which of these options seems best for the purpose of gaming if I don't plan to upgrade for 4-5 years? I have a GTX 1050 2GB at the moment if that changes anything and I'm looking into getting a 3060 Ti (or a gifted 1660 Ti) in the future.
I've heard #2 outperforms #3 even at a lower RAM speed, but from what I understand the catch is that it's less future proofed.

Hey guys!

I ordered a Gigabyte 3060 ti gaming OC pro, and it should come in today/tomorrow.
I have an I5-3470 and planning to upgrade to 3600 or 5600x soon. But had to secure the GPU now hahah.
My question is: my PSU is the seasonic m12ii evo 520w 80+ bronze.
Is it okay for this GPU, and my current and planned CPU? Or could it cause problems?
I'd really not like to break stuff or break my new GPU.

Could I save myself 80 dollars?
I managed to get my hands on a 3060 Ti. I'm currently running an R5 2600 that I plan on upgrading to an R5 5600x or 5600(if/when it drops) sometime next Spring. I'm currently running a 550w PSU, but bought a 650w PSU yesterday for $80 cause it was on sale. I just felt a bit more comfortable with the overhead, but will I be fine if I return it and stick with my 550w? Any money saved is always appreciated.
Pc part picker says I should be fine, but I would like some opinions on this that aren't based solely on numbers. Thanks in advance guys

Will I need Noctua NH-U12A over NH-U12S for 5600x? I do have the cooler that came with the 5600x and if I want an upgrade for the cooler, would NH-U12A be a better choice? I'm not sure if it is worth $40 more.

I have a standing desk and currently have the PC on a small desk next to the standing desk (so that the weight of the PC doesn't have to be lifted constantly by the desk). It's not the best looking/most stable thing on earth.
Anyone else have a similar setup with a suggestion on what to put it on? The best idea I've had is an art display pedestal like they have at museums, but they're awfully pricey, so making sure I haven't missed something more obvious.

You know how GPUs can help with rendering, how would the 3060 ti be for rendering?
