This SSD[1] is Gen4.0 interface and was wondering if there's any downsides to that besides not having a Gen4 motherboard?

Otherwise, wouldn't this be a pretty good deal since the read/write is a lot faster than like Samsung 970?

The maximum for PCIe seems to be 3500 MB/s so you won't get a lot benefits if you don't have a gen4 slot on your motherboard.
Also depends on what you do with your pc. If you move big files etc. then gen4 is clearly faster. For gaming and as a a boot drive, you won't see much of a difference between gen4 and gen3 and even SATA SSDs.
