I'm a librarian, so I can say from experience that certain genres/authors are targeted to male vs female (and even straight vs gay). And if we're speaking generally, men and women do typically gravitate towards different books.
That being said, nobody actually gives a damn what anyone reads. I've had plenty of male patrons who read romance, in fact this one older man was working his way through our entire Danielle Steel collection! We don't care or judge.
