View submission: My face of r/atheism

You clearly don't live in the South or Midwest of the US.

Edit: I'd like to know how many of you who are in the Midwest and South and say zero fucks are given are actually openly atheist, as in many people know this about you. I'm just having a hard time believing nobody has ever given you the cold shoulder, spread gossip about you, or talked shit to you about being atheist. Serious question. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but my experiences in Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri when people find out I'm atheist have been largely negative. The same people who were my friends before finding out this one piece of info about me now act like I've sprouted another head.

I go to high school in Austin, and I would say the atheists outnumber the theists. Beacon of light in Texas

I've lived in Savannah GA for the last few years and only person to ever bother me is the one crazy guy who walks around with a sign. He bothers everyone though.

I live in Charlotte, North Carolina and have lived in South Carolina. I've never had an issue being a non-believer. I realize that other people have had issues, but isn't like they are standing on the border going, "What church do you go to, honey?"

Um I live in the Midwest, Minnesota to be exact and never once have I even discussed the issue of religion with a stranger or work colleague. But guess what, if it did, those religious people would probably just piss themselves in excitement that they now could have the opportunity to save me.

People always forget how horribly conservative Orange County, and the Inland Empire are. For being such a blue state, California has a lot of bible thumpers.

Minnesotan here, no issues with Atheism. I also go to Iowa a fair bit and haven't encountered any issues there. It depends on where you are- urban areas or anywhere with a larger diversity inevitably leads to more tolerance. Stay in a town that's been a Lutheran stronghold for generations, for example, and they're unlikely to look on godlessness fondly.

That's really why I generally give the Atheism subreddit a pass when it gets particularly shrill. I'm pretty live and let live on matters of religion, but as a Rhode Islander, I'm generally spared the worst of religious nutbaggery. Unless you count this nonsense: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57379909/school-votes-not-to-appeal-prayer-banner-case/

Michigan here, I've had some respectful conversations (more like debates really) with some religious friends but that's about it. Nothing hostile.

Neither from Muslims nor Christians.

Most people don't care about Atheism, even in the south. Furthermore, most people up voting you are just trying to perpetuate their victim complex, which has become the only way they validate their lives. I hope you feel proud.
