View submission: My husband(30m) said our daughter(7 months) looks ugly because she has to wear a brac

He’s an asshole to equate beauty to physical ability. It’s not funny. It’s not a joke. He clearly isn’t handling it well and it’s coming out. You did the right thing defending your child! Unfortunately, there will be many bullies in your child’s life (braces or not, most children have to endure bullies), your husband shouldn’t be racing to be the first.

And beauty to worth! So his main goal for his daughter is for her to be pretty? Not ... Happy? Functional? Successful? He literally is just saying he wants a doll in his house to look at. Gross.

And even if he really did feel the need to make a joke/comment on how the brace looks (I can relate in that I use humor as a coping mechanism) he could have easily said something like "she makes that brace look adorable" (elevating the brace instead of cutting down the child).

Definite veins of ableism and misogyny.

Yup my ex husband is my oldest sons biggest bully (he’s 12) and it’s absolutely heartbreaking I tell him he doesn’t need to give his dad any of his time but it still hurts he still wants his dad to treat him like he treats his brother

Hip dysplasia is cured with this kind of brace. By the time she has to go to any kind of school, she won't have braces.

Iirc she won't need braces after the first six months if they use it correctly, so she won't get any physical disability even while trying to walk etc.

Which imo it lowers a bit the assholery, as I don't associate this type of braces with physical disability.

He wasn't equating beauty to physical ability, he said the brace was ugly. My baby had to be in one for a long time. It *is* ugly. It's normal to go through some emotions about it. It's unfortunate that op and her husband aren't able to talk this through together.
