View submission: /r/IAmA set to private over mod firing

This seems to be a seriously stupid decision. We have several AMAs upcoming in /r/books and have no idea how to contact the authors.

I didn't even think that the sub mods probably wouldn't have any contact info for various AMAs. This is going to wreck a lot of shit for the next few months.

This seems to be a seriously stupid decision.

To be fair, unless you know something I don't, we don't know why she was fired. It is entirely possible there is a valid (and justifiably private) reason.

I stayed out of the Pao fun until now, but firing Victoria really pisses me off.

Well, on the plus side this is the first time reddit has actually gotten upset about something bad happening to a woman, so we got that going for us.

It seems the current trend is to take the sub private, like /r/iama and now /r/science.

Thank God, for the fact that /r/android coordinates our own AMAs. We have mods who's job is to contact people and help them

That's a shame, someone who was very helpful to a lot of the default subreddits and all of a sudden she gets fired? Only thing I can think of is the Jesse Jackson AMA backlash, but we'll see in the days to come...

That has more to do with too many people relying on one person and getting upset when they're gone. You need to be more reliant on yourself.

How is letting get yourself completely out of the loop of the upcoming AMAs for the subreddit that you moderate something stupid on Reddit side?

The authors know how to contact the /r/books mods, though.

You should just make the sub private like all the other mods with a spine.

As long as it makes the mods feel more important. That's the main thing.

We're still handling this -- please direct emails to AMA@reddit.com -- and are in touch with the scheduled AMAs across the platform.
