Maybe. I just find it interesting nobody really talks about it, while superhero movies, comics and videogames keep burning money trying to shed their reputation as “for boys”.

It seems to me that media that focuses on performative inclusion usually does poorly vs. works that are just about telling a good story first and foremost.

Like Andor was pretty diverse and had women kicking ass in a variety of ways, lots of POC with prominent characters. But first and foremost it was really good. So no one cared about anything else there.

The Acolyte team probably knew they had a fine but ultimately mediocre entry comparably. Maybe they tried to compensate by making inclusiveness front and center with their marketing. But the pushback there was also nuts. It was diverse and just okay. It wasn't awful because it was diverse.
