Because, like, it's not illegal.

The laws weren't written by idiots. The lawyers were well aware that social clubs and various leagues existed, and people would want them to continue existing. They were written to allow it, barring whatever specific rules exist for where you are.

I'm in Minnesota, one of the states that really took a lead in the push to end gender discrimination, and men's clubs and leagues are still really common and very welcoming to new members. Our laws are some of the most strict, but even then if a group like a country club wanted to be men-only, well, they still absolutely can. But they lose their tax exempt status.

That's the strictest punishment.

Guess how much of a limitation that is for any group that isn't like a country club, full on buying large amounts of property? And those places are all going to be charging their members to pay the bills anyways. If you join a men only country club you'll know how much the membership fee is when you join, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

But the real question you should be asking is why certain online communities would want you to think its illegal?
