I guess not all of us were chronically online and actually playing the games we bought? Idk I worked at GameStop at the time and didn’t hear anything negative about Bayonetta.

Maybe. I remember it being a huge debate at the time. You basically had two camps. The “most gamers are guys and guys like boobies” camp and the “it’s because of shit like this making women uncomfortable that gaming is mostly male” camp. The second one won out and it’s why women’s designs aren’t as sexualized now as back then. And why sexualized female designs nowadays are kinda taboo (the discourse around stellar blade now is almost 1:1 the discourse around Bayonetta).

I was actually really surprised Bayonetta was reclaimed by lesbians considering how “anti feminist” she was seen back in the day.
