Exactly. It was the transition from artist-owned and operated to business major owned and operated that turned gaming into a boy's club.
Technically proficient jobs used to be female coded, back when they didn't pay well. Typists and court reporters, telephone switchboard operators and programmers. Artists and storytellers.
So if a programmer wanted to hire artists and writers to tell a story, you wouldn't expect a male dominated field. But once a businessman wants to make a clique of similar insiders, we get "gaming was always for boys."
