I carry a flashlight and a multi-tool wherever I go. Does that make me scared of the dark and mechanical mishaps? Those things are just tools that are carried in the event that they’re needed, the same as a firearm is.

Why do you see being prepared as equal to being fearful? That’s the real question here.

You are pointing out exactly what I am saying

You use your flashlight many times a year You use your multi tool every day I too carry both of those, I’m prepared I also have other things I carry when leaving the house.

But what else do you carry that you use so little?

I was just thinking about it, you have airbags, and seatbelts that never get used, at least you hope they don’t, but you always have them with you when you’re driving. Sorry, I’m kind of arguing both sides of this. But I’m just trying to wrap my head around these thoughts

Sure, but that’s playing word games a little bit. I may not fear mechanical problems, but I do anticipate needing to deal with them. Likewise I don’t carry a framing hammer on my belts when I’m not framing. The specific tools you mentioned have wide applicability.

And, you’re also ignoring the fact that plenty of people are quite open about wanting or actually carrying a gun because they are afraid. There are many fear-motivated firearm owners out there.

I don’t think it advances the discussion to pretend that a gun on your hip is the same as a multitool.

I have been in the dark and found a light helpful. My pliers get used at least once a week, although most of the other bits on my multitool don't. Do you use a gun often enough to justify carrying one around?

If you need to carry a gun with you 24 hours a day there is something psychologically wrong with you. It sounds like a child carrying around a blankie.
