Answer: I think it's impossible to know for sure, but if I were a betting man I'd put my money on this one being genuine because it's being reported by multiple sources which, by by my reckoning, means either:
1. It's real.
2. The media has colluded on the April Fool.
3. Carrey has successfully fooled multiple media outlets.
Option 1 feels like the most likely to me.
Edit: No reveal yet, but of course there are quite a few hours of the day left. However, I now notice that all the articles are citing the same Access Hollywood interview, which was *recorded* earlier in the week and *released* today. Still not a definitive answer but it makes me even more sure that option 1 is most likely.

Answer: I would bet on him actually retiring. He's been outspoken over things he sees as failures by Hollywood for years; for example, after starring in Kick Ass 2, he decried the movie's violence pretty loudly. He also made statements after the Will Smith slap that Hollywood had become "spineless en masse" by giving him a standing ovation after his Oscar win, and that he would have pressed charges and sued for $200 mil. He's not been happy for years.

It's not much of a joke if it's fake. Like if tomorrow he said "April fool's! Got you, suckers!" people would just be like, ok...?
Ideally an April fool's joke makes you laugh when you find out it's not true, which is different than just telling a lie.

If it’s not a joke I’m pretty sure he’s been slowly getting tired of the whole Hollywood thing for a while now and the recent events may could have been what makes him say fuck it

I dunno, but I hope it's real.
