View submission: How are the Western made jets (Airbus/Boeing) operated by Russian airlines still flying considering the number of sanctions against the sale of spare service parts?

Not sure if I will purely blame the airlines in this case since as I understanding Russia also made a law saying that those planes don't have to be returned.

Return the planes and fall out of a window cos you broke the law in Russia or keep the planes, and although you have problems outside Russia, at least you and your family don't find that they are in all sorts of trouble.

Oh yeah the letters were a token gesture.  No one actually expected Russia to return the airplanes.

At most that they might play a role in all the lawsuits that are going to happen after the war is over.  After any war there is always a lot of legal fighting over who gets what money.
