View submission: How are the Western made jets (Airbus/Boeing) operated by Russian airlines still flying considering the number of sanctions against the sale of spare service parts?

Russian airline were sent letters at the beginning of this war.  The letters very clearly explained why the Russians were legally obligated to return the airplanes and all replacement parts they have on hand.

The Russians don't care.  They just kept everything they had.  It's illegal but they don't care.  I could probably keep their airplane flying at reduced capacity for a few decades without new parts.

So, I have a stupid question:

Why would they be obligated to return aircraft that they paid for? If I buy something then you tell me to return it because we got into an argument, that would be ridiculous.

You understand that it was dirrect response to seizing Russian assets in Europe?

Not sure if I will purely blame the airlines in this case since as I understanding Russia also made a law saying that those planes don't have to be returned.

Return the planes and fall out of a window cos you broke the law in Russia or keep the planes, and although you have problems outside Russia, at least you and your family don't find that they are in all sorts of trouble.
