View submission: ‘Crisis communications’: emails show how NFL’s Saints and NBA’s Pelicans helped New Orleans church spin abuse scandal

I can understand why a devout Catholic would be willing to help the church navigate a scandal. But what I can’t get behind is the clear tone of trying to praise church leadership and downplay the abuse. Benson and so many others named in the article are complicit in the lack of transparency and accountability. I don’t personally believe in god, but it makes me wish there was one so that they could have their souls judged for their failure when they had the money and power to do more than let a powerful organization continue to shield child abuse. I hope the federal investigation leads to sweeping charges and convictions.

Gayle Benson is obsessed with attention and reverence. Nothing makes her happier than being adorned by people. Or the church. They put her on a pedestal every day, have sent her to meet the pope, and are just waiting it out till she dies so they can get whatever money she's got coming to them.

Benson is complicit in enabling the church to get away with child rape. And all profits she's gets from the teams are basically earmarked for the rapists.

I **cannot** understand why someone who actually believes in the dogmas of that faith would want to cover up for a bunch of rapists & pedophiles.

I think organized religion can be good for people, but here, it's an organized crime. And this is just the tip of the iceberg with the trafficking in this city.

It's clear this isnt a problem with catholic individuals, more a problem with a corrupt and entrenched institution.

And yeah I completely agree. If the christian god is real then these people have some really nasty things coming for them.
