My ex's birthday is this weekend and she's probably spending it with her new dude. I don't want to be stuck inside in my thoughts, but my friends all seem to be busy. I'm thinking about taking a solo trip (which I've never done) somewhere like Arizona or something

I fucking love running away for a bit. Get reflective in nature, my dude (ette)!

Solo trips are great! When I do it, I like to have some sort of challenging goal I set for myself, so even if it's hard or not always fun, I end up with a sense of accomplishment when I finish. For me, this might be biking the trip for a few hundred miles. Or this might be hiking up a mountain I always wanted to visit. It might be snowboarding somewhere special or surfing or helping a charity or painting or anything else.

I know the feeling all to well. Got pretty familiar with Yosemite and other National parks with solo trips. If you like nature you should make the drive to Zion NP. It's not too long at all imo but you do lose an hour from the time zones. Lots of interesting stops along the way also

I was really nervous to do it my first time too. And then I spent an amazing twelve days driving up the coast to Portland and then back down. I've done it a few times since and always love it.
Hikes, fresh air, new scenery, new foods, new drinks. All does a soul good. I recommend you pop out somewhere for a night or two and see what happens.
