A lot of countries tend to expect more formal wear in public than the US. Like casual wear is a no-go in many settings in other countries be they educational or dance clubs.

In the US it is socially acceptable to go around all day looking like you're just rolled out of bed and put on whatever was laying on the floor to use the bathroom. And you'll be perfectly blending with the crowd because any structured pants or buttoned sleeves look like a high-end formal wear in the US these days. Like OP said in some countries it's not acceptable socially.
