View submission: Thoughts on trump’s economy?
That kind of messaging does nothing for someone in 2024 who, five years ago, could make ends meet but is now struggling to do so. Telling people “the economy is actually good” when their rent has doubled and groceries cost way more than they used to just comes off as dismissive. Sure, long-term trends might show better economic performance under Democrats, but most people don’t vote based on historical averages or aggregate macroeconomic data, they vote based on their lived experiences. If someone feels worse off now than they did under Trump, just pointing to data isn’t going to change their mind. Democrats need to acknowledge those struggles directly instead of just insisting things are better. Trump successfully tapped into those grievances, and even though he evidently just used them as a talking point and didn’t actually have a plan to address them, it worked.

i keep hearing how most people were hurting und the biden administration. in 2023 and 2024 i could ride by retail store and they were as busy as i had seen the in a decade. the national parks and sale of rvs were at an all time high. plane tickets, resorts, and hotel stays were were growing. these are all signs that people felt good about their situation and felt good about their economic future. when polls were taken people replied that the economy in their area was good but the national economy was bad. this leads me to believe that the fox propaganda had an effect.

Right, people don't want facts, they want vibes and lies. Which is how we ended up with a fascist and a collapsing economy.

The Dems did acknowledge the struggles - one of Biden's first statements as President was promising no more shutdowns, no more mask mandates, etc. They did miss the boat on inflation early on, but later dialed in that messaging a LOT.
