View submission: Thoughts on trump’s economy?

The economy WAS good under Biden. For many decades now, the economy suffers under Republican presidents and recovers under Democrat presidents. There is actual data that shows this, not just some orange guy's feelings.

That kind of messaging does nothing for someone in 2024 who, five years ago, could make ends meet but is now struggling to do so. Telling people “the economy is actually good” when their rent has doubled and groceries cost way more than they used to just comes off as dismissive. Sure, long-term trends might show better economic performance under Democrats, but most people don’t vote based on historical averages or aggregate macroeconomic data, they vote based on their lived experiences. If someone feels worse off now than they did under Trump, just pointing to data isn’t going to change their mind. Democrats need to acknowledge those struggles directly instead of just insisting things are better. Trump successfully tapped into those grievances, and even though he evidently just used them as a talking point and didn’t actually have a plan to address them, it worked.

The data is wrong because it doesn’t reflect the actual real world. Anyone can twist metrics to prove anything they want to claim, but if it doesn’t align with the actual real world, it’s meaningless.

The economies were good under specific sectors. That doesn’t mean that everyone was doing better even while working the same job and living the same house and buying the same groceries.
